Spanish in 8th Grade (Called "Spanish IB")
Spanish IB Syllabus– 8th Grade
Introduction:
I would like to welcome all of you to your study of Spanish. As the world gets smaller, the need to speak more than one language is becoming more and more important along with the need to understand other cultures. Learning Spanish is a challenge but can also be fun. I cannot wait for you to experience our adventures this year and fall in love with Spanish!
Purpose:
Students who satisfactorily complete Spanish in the 7th and 8th grades receive high school credit for Spanish 1. This means that they will be able to continue onto Spanish II in 9th grade. I have very high expectations of all my students, but I am sure that - with all of the fun communicative activities we will be doing - everyone will be well prepared.

Homework Policy and Assignments:
Weekly Vocabulary Assignment – a specific topic is given each Monday, and students are required to complete one of the five assignment options by Friday of each week.
Daily Vocabulary Study – Students are expected to study vocabulary daily. 5-15 minutes daily are more effective than hours the night before a quiz or test. There may be unannounced vocabulary quizzes at any time during the term to assess mastery of vocabulary; vocabulary is also critical to the practice activities that we do each day in class. Other Homework – other homework may be assigned at times and will include remediation, practice and enrichment activities as well as projects and outside reading comprehension topics. There will be times when students may not finish an assignment in class, and take additional time by finishing it at home.
Late Work:
All assignments are due on the due date given for the assignment. If it is not turned in at that time it is late. All late work needs to be turned in by Friday of the week the assignment was due. No late work will be accepted after the 8th week of each term. I understand that there will be times when an assignment is delayed for important reasons, I am willing to work with individual students on those occasions.
Behavior Expectations:
I expect a high level of class participation during the learning periods. In order to achieve this each student must hold themselves responsible for his/her own behavior. Consequences for infractions against school and classroom policies will follow school discipline policy.
